Week One: Research and planning

Technical elements: Technical elements consist of scenery (set), costumes, properties, lights, sound, and makeup
-Films often use softer lighting in romance movies to make scenes appear dreamy and ethereal
-Faces are zoomed in on to show the viewer the raw emotion on the characters face
-Diegetic sounds and background music can make the scene calm and soft, or bring action and suspense
-Mise en scene elements are always used in films, but not all viewers can pick them out easily
-Filmed in a style that makes you feel as if you are apart of the movie, not like the fast paced filming of an action movie

Week One: Research and Planning

Genre:
The genre I have chosen for my portfolio project as you guys would know if you had read my previous postings, is drama. Drama films consist of serious stories with real life situations and also have realistic characters in conflicts with either themselves, others, or forces of nature. This type of genre relies on the emotional and relational development of the characters within the film. Drama films aim to tell an honest story of human struggles.

Characters: Within this type of genre, characters play an important role in the drams whether it is a major or minor one. Realistic characters are used in order for the viewers/audience to really grab a greater gist and feel a connection to the film. They often find themselves relating the film due to the realistic and the situations they are put in.

Plot Aspects: Dramatic themes often include current issues, societal ills, and problems, concerns or injustices, such as racial prejudice, religious intolerance (such as anti-Semitism), drug addiction, poverty, political unrest, the corruption of power, alcoholism, class divisions, sexual inequality, mental illness, corrupt societal institutions, violence toward women or other explosive issues of the times.
