Representation:
The group in which I'd want to represent within my project is the 'Girls Not Brides organization'. The Girls Not Brides organization is the global partnership to end child marriage. It is an international non-governmental organization with the mission to end child marriage throughout the world. This organization was created by the elders to enable small groups from around the world to address the common issue of early marriage. Child marriage is any formal marriage or informal union where one or both of the parties are under the age of eighteen.
Child marriages is a truly global problem that cuts across the countries, cultures, religions and ethnicity's. Child brides can be found in every region in the world, from the Middle East to Latin America, South Asia to Europe. Over 650 million women alive today were married as children. One in five girls are said to be married before eighteen. Child marriage is fueled by gender inequality, poverty, traditions, and insecurity.  Child marriage is rooted in gender inequality and the belief that girls and women are inferior to men. Girls are not valued as much as boys- they are seen as a burden to their families.
In the hit HBO television series, Game of Thrones, there is a representation of child marriages. In the beginning of the series we are presented with Viserys Targaryen and his sister, Daenerys. In the show, Viserys, the brother, is seen arranging a marriage of his seventeen year old sister to a Dothraki king in order to further his agenda to become king of the seven kingdoms. The next example is, in the movie Difret, viewers are presented with Hriut Assefa, a fourteen year old girl who was kidnapped and was arranged a marriage. She was taken to a hut, locked up and assaulted by her would-be husband. She then grabbed a gun that he had leaning against a wall and later on shot him. She was accused of murder and after two years in court the judge ruled that she had acted in self defense. Her trial set a precedent and made it possible to outlaw bride kidnapped in Ethiopia.
In these representation characteristics I think that they are fair and correct. I think that the film Difret portrays the Girls not Brides organization because they tie in together since they both have to do with child marriages and arranged marriages. I would retain the film Difret just because i feel as it does contain a lot more content on child marriages. I would possibly challenge Game of Thrones. Although they did portray child marriages, I feel as i'd contain more content on it.
The search for genre part dos

  1. Action
  2. In an action story they usually have a fast-moving plot. The protagonist in the story most likely takes the risky route which then leads to a desperate situation. Not just a protagonist but also one or more group of heroes are put into a series of challenges, life threatening situations.  In those scenes their might include, explosions, fight scenes, daring escapes, frantic chases, etc. The storyline is usually the hero trying to fight against evil to stop them. With then usually resulting in a happy ending for the protagonist as he tries to save the day.
  3. The production techniques involved in an action genre includes sound effects such as for explosions, car engines, intense music, gun shots, running, screaming etc. The lighting in an action film is mostly daylight, searchlights, and street lamps. Actors seem to mainly wear expensive clothing for battle. Mostly dark colors are worn like black or brown to make the characters more suspicious. However, the main protagonist/hero  wears white to make them stand out so viewers can see the contrast of good and evil. Action is usually taken place in cities, warehouses, police stations, cars, casinos, banks, etc. There is very fast paced shots as well as close ups to show emotions. Establishing shots are used to show where the action is taking place. Tracking shots are also common to make viewers feel like they are apart of it.
  4. The Fast and the Furious is an action film sequel in which has to do with illegal street racing. In these films there has been the main protagonist and a new villain in each of these movies. The protagonist tries to fight and save the day as the bad guy is up to no good. They’ll end up in car races which is the ultimate life threatening challenge the stunts they pull off and is where the sound effects come in. This film includes the sound effects of explosions, car engines, gun shots, and, intense music. The Fast and the Furious includes a lot of fight scenes and car chases. A few stunts were done in this movie as the cars would street race, and land perfectly.
  5. Rush Hour is an action film sequel that has to do with different missions each movie in which the protagonist is fighting off the bad guy as he tries to save the day. More specifically in the first Rush Hour, the protagonists are on a mission to save the Chinese diplomats daughter as she has been kidnapped. This movie contains car chases, fight scenes and sound effects including explosions. Film mainly takes place in daylight. The protagonist then fights off villains that took away the Chinese diplomats daughter and gets her back.

The search for genre begins!

  1. Drama
  2. It shows real life situations with realistic characters, settings and stories. It also portrays journeys of character development and there is intense social interaction. The purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience emotionally. Conflicts include inner/outer realistic struggles depicting hardships, difficulty, and pain. In the genre, typically the audience can relate to the characters. It is structured with climaxes and anticlimaxes to keep the audience emotionally attached and the tension going. Also includes a form of realization at the end/ happily ending.
  3. Production techniques such as lighting, special effects, sound, and music used to develop and shape understanding of atmosphere, characterization, conflict, and theme.  Light can be used to establish the time or location of a performance, or to create and enhance mood and atmosphere. Low key lighting is mainly used within drama films to make a scene or event a lot more intense, inflicting a reaction from the audience. Diegetic sound effects are also used to add suspense and dramatic effect to a silent scene. Non-diegetic sound is also used within the drama genre. Close up shots are commonly used within the drama genre of films to emphasize either the reaction, emotion or facial expression of the character, allowing the audience to depict an atmosphere and increase intensity.
  4. They are serious representations of real life and/or stories and do not include fantasy in the plot. They show emotions and events at their true height and perhaps dramatize them. Includes many emotional scenes. There is some form of journey and a happily ever after.
  5. The film Titanic is an example of a drama. In this film, it uses real characters and portrays a real life situation. The movie focus' on two characters most of the film who are in love yet go through the impossible. Throughout most of it they are going through a journey together. It catches most audience attention emotionally as viewers grow fond of characters. At a certain point in the climax it gets very intense. The music and lighting in this film makes everything very dramatic and intense, especially when the ship itself is sinking.
  6. The film Jaws is an example of a drama. In this film, it is about a bunch of people who get eaten by a shark and is also a mystery because they did not know who the killer was. This film uses real life people and situations that can happen in real life. It's setting is at the beach in the ocean which is a real setting as well. We view the struggles of the all the characters when the situation was happening and we see when it gets better. It gets very intense due to its popular music in which mainly everyone knows.Close ups are used to give audience a sense of tension and drama.

This is it!

Hi welcome to my blog, this is my first post! (don’t know if you can tell but I’m new to this) My name is Fabiana Dominguez and I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a bilingual 17 year old (not many of those, am I right). I’m in my senior year at Cypress Bay High School. I enjoy painting a lot. In fact, I think it’s what I am best at. I do it whenever I have time (not that I have a lot of time anyway due to my poor time management skills). Fun fact: I am such an indecisive person it took me a total of 3 hours to decide what it was that I wanted to talk about in this wonderful blog of mine that I’ve created. It’s probably because I’m a bit of an over thinker and I’ve been trained and taught to write whatever it is others tell me to (teachers). Now I have all this freedom and don’t know what to do with it! It’s so exciting yet nerve wracking!
In my new journey that I am taking you guys on with me, aka this blog, I want to talk about my final film project in which not just me but the whole class is working on. Talking about the whole process like the genre in which I will be doing so in my next post. Stay tuned ;). Hopefully, during this whole process, ideas start flowing out of my head constantly, the light bulb up there stays on, and I’m on the right track.

Sincerely,

Fabiana
